Today celebrates the year 4712 in the Chinese Lunar calendar, the year of the horse. In multi-cultural Vancouver, the city will celebrate the traditional New Year’s parade in Chinatown on Feb 2, 2014. Specialty food items and products signify health, happiness, and good fortune such as the lucky red pockets, whole fish and dumplings. The colors red and gold are the main themes. The dragon dances and firecrackers disperse bad fortune to bring in good luck for the New Year.
