The year is coming to a close having just experienced our first two snow storms on consecutive days just a week before Christmas. Fortunately our snow doesn’t linger very long with our mild temperatures. Driving to work was interesting seeing all the stranded vehicles ill-equipped for the weather conditions. Had they properly prepared, the outcome may have been different.
I’ve learned that we have to be ready and be able to adapt at all times. When working with Buyers, I always ensured that they were able to handle their mortgage payments and all other expenses. I asked if they had a contingency plan if someone lost their job or if a special assessment came up. I also asked if there was any financial support from parents should the need arise.
Have you ever had bad test results from school exams? Usually the cause is from not studying the material or from the lack of understanding. If the latter, we should have asked for help. If the former, then there should be no surprises. The same applies to school projects. Did you rush to finish at the last minute and hoping for an excellent grade?
Having said the above, how do we prepare for 2013? I guess it really boils down to preparing properly and managing risk. If you are a high risk-taker, have you assessed the potential outcomes, and can you survive in the best and worst case scenarios? I think if you have carefully worked out the process before putting into action, you should be fine. Some refer this to as planning. It is a simple but novel idea.
